The Metropolitan Museum of Art Degas Dancer Bookmark
29.95 USD
Edgar Degas (French, 1834-1917) favored scenes of ballet dancers, laundresses, milliners, and denizens of Parisian low life. His interest in ballet dancers intensified in the 1870s, and eventually he produced approximately 1,500 works on the subject. These are not traditional portraits, but studies that capture the human body in movement and repose, exploring the physicality and discipline of the dancers, often from unexpected vantage points. Our bookmark reproduces a silhouetted detail from Dancer (ca. 1880), a pastel and charcoal drawing in The Met collection.

Egyptians believed that it was through their depictions in tombs, temples, and shrines that the deities could enter sacred spaces and become active participants in rituals, offering a vital connection between the human and divine worlds. Over Egypt's long history, its belief system grew to include more than 1,500 gods with many overlapping forms and traits. Subtle visual cues like what a figure wore, how they posed, or the symbols they carried helped identify them and their roles. Divine Egypt brings together almost 250 works of art and objects to examine the imagery associated with the most important deities in ancient Egypt's massive body of gods.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art Four Seasons Paisley Oversize Structured Tote
102.95 USD
An art tote bag inspired by The Met collection. Tote around a bit of The Met with this artful structured bag. In the early 19th century, luxurious shawls from Kashmir became indispensable fashion accessories for the stylish European woman. The patterns on these costly, hand-woven shawls generally incorporated the boteh form, an ancient Persian motif based on the tree of life. By the midcentury, machine-made reproductions were being produced with popularity in Europe. Paisley, which is derived from the boteh design, gets its name from the Scottish town that produced many of these shawls until they fell out of favor in the 1870s. A mid-19th-century French or Scottish example in The Met collection, presenting a "four seasons" layout swirling around a central point, informs our stylish interpretation.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art Limbourg Brothers: The Belles Heures of Jean de France, duc de Berry Holiday Cards
31.9 USD
Send season's greetings with art holiday cards from The Met. The spectacular image on these artful holiday cards comes from a private devotional book at The Met Cloisters. The Belles Heures, or Beautiful Hours, of Jean de France, duc de Berry, was probably made in Paris between 1405 and 1408 or 1409. Commissioned by Jean de France, duc de Berry, from the illustrious Limbourg brothers (Franco-Netherlandish, active France, by 1399-1416), it's the only manuscript the brothers completed in its entirety, and it's regarded among the most marvelous extant illuminations of its kind. Using a luminous palette, the artists united Italianate details with an intimate Northern vision of nature. Their keen interest in the natural world foreshadowed the work of Jan van Eyck (Netherlandish, ca. 1390-1441) and the subsequent generations of 15th-century regional painters. This painting was almost certainly commissioned as a private devotional image; while the patron's identity remains unknown, this picture was in the famed Barberini collection in Rome during the 17th century. The Metropolitan Museum of Art Vivarini: The Madonna of Humility Holiday Cards
31.9 USD
Art Christmas cards inspired by The Met collection. Wish your loved ones a "Merry Christmas" with our holiday cards featuring a detail from the centerpiece of a triptych by Bartolomeo Vivarini (Italian, active Venice 1450-91) in The Met collection. Likely intended for private devotion, the original work depicts the Annunciation, the Nativity, and the Pietà, with the Madonna of Humility in the center. Bartolomeo's debt to the Paduan master Andrea Mantegna is especially evident in the rendering of the landscape and the figure of the Madonna in the Nativity scene. Although the frame is not original, it conveys the decorative ornamentation typical of the Vivarini. The Vivarini were a family of Venetian painters whose prolific workshop specialized in large, multi-tiered altarpieces for churches throughout the Veneto region. The Metropolitan Museum of Art Birds and Flowers of the Four Seasons Holiday Cards
31.9 USD
Send season's greetings with art holiday cards from The Met. The elegant composition of cranes among flowers on our holiday cards, originally presented in a seasonal progression from spring to winter, is a suggestion of longevity. It comes from a pair of lavish six-panel folding screens made in late 16th-century Japan during the Momoyama period (1573-1615), when images with exaggerated, high-relief details were popular. Vivid colors and strong ink outlines against a golden background are characteristic of Kano Motonobu (Japanese, 1476-1559), founder of the famous Kano school of painting, while the boldness is evocative of his grandson Kano Eitoku (Japanese, 1543-1590). The portfolio to which these prints belong became wildly popular thanks to the large scale and finesse of the illustrations. Their three-dimensional quality is largely attributed to the skillful application of color, most of which was notably executed by Regenfuss's wife, Margaretha Helena.
