The Met Store Giambologna: Medici Walking Horse Sculpture The Met Store Giambologna: Medici Walking Horse Sculpture 427.95 USD Bonded Bronze Horse, Fine Art Sculpture The Museum's sculpture is based on a model by Giovanni Bologna, called Giambologna (Netherlandish, ca. 1529-1608) that was probably cast in the workshop of sculptor Giovanni Francesco Susini (Italian, ca. 1575-1653). Giambologna's models were created for the equestrian statue of Grand Duke Cosimo I de' Medici in the Piazza della Signoria in Florence, which was finished in 1594. Produced in cooperation with the Princely Collections of Liechtenstein.
The Met Store Cycladic Head Sculpture The Met Store Cycladic Head Sculpture 352.95 USD This strikingly abstract sculpture was reproduced from an intriguing marble head of a woman, of a type that represents the first flowering of marble sculpture in prehistoric Greece. The original head, made 2700-2500 BCE, is from the Cyclades, an island group in the Aegean Sea that's rich in marble, emery, and obsidian. Inhabitants of these islands began to produce marble figures and vessels as early as 5000 BCE. Little is known about these figural sculptures, which are predominantly women; the frequency of female figures makes it likely they were related to fertility. The Met's ancient sculpture displays traces of the eyes in extremely low relief, indicating they were formerly rendered with pigment.
The Met Store Egyptian Cat Sculpture The Met Store Egyptian Cat Sculpture 357.95 USD Our reproduction, which is based on an Egyptian sculpture of the Ptolemaic period (332-30 BCE), is produced from a master mold of the original in the Museum's collection. Cats were first domesticated by the Egyptians in the Middle Kingdom for their mouse-hunting abilities. By New Kingdom times they had also become household companions. In tomb scenes they frequently appear seated beneath the chairs of their owners or on sporting boats in the Nile marshes, where they flush out birds for their masters.

The Met Store Statue of Aphrodite Sculpture The Met Store Statue of Aphrodite Sculpture 357.95 USD A beautiful marble sculpture of Aphrodite in the Museum's collection was made in Imperial Rome (1st or 2nd century CE) as a copy of a Greek statue of the third or second century BCE. In this work, the goddess of love is shown as though surprised at her bath. Originally, her arms reached forward to shield her body in a gesture that both concealed and accentuated her sexuality. Our beautiful reproduction of the Museum's Aphrodite was created with a combination of three-dimensional imaging and traditional sculpture techniques.

The Imperial Renaissance Egg was probably inspired by a 16-century casket known to Fabergé from his student days in Dresden. The chalcedony egg is ornamented with Renaissance-style decorations, brilliantly enameled in translucent colors and opaque white, and set with diamonds and cabochon rubies. It rests on a gold base with loop handles hanging from gold lion masks. Set in rose diamonds on the top of the egg, the date 1894 commemorates the year Czar Alexander III presented the egg to his wife, Maria Feodorovna.
The Met Store William Morris Carpet MouseRug The Met Store William Morris Carpet MouseRug 31.95 USD One of the founders of the Arts and Crafts movement, William Morris (British, 1834-1896) designed beautiful, handcrafted household objects that elevated decorative pieces to the realm of fine art. The Metropolitan Museum of Art Seeing Silence: The Paintings of Helene Schjerfbeck The Metropolitan Museum of Art Seeing Silence: The Paintings of Helene Schjerfbeck 52.95 USD Pick up an art book from The Met's museum store. By Dita Amory With contributions by Patricia G. Berman, Anna-Maria von Bonsdorff, Zoe de Bretagne, Silvia A. Centeno, Charlotte Hale, Max Hollein, and Elizabeth Peyton Reevaluating the role of Finnish painter Helene Schjerfbeck (1862-1946) in the history of modernism, this publication highlights pivotal passages in her sixtyyear career-from her training at the Finnish Art Society and remarkable early success to her studies in Paris and St. Ives and eventual return to Finland. There, in relative isolation, she pared down figure paintings and still lifes to near abstraction while introducing greater complexity in her canvases. Long celebrated in Finland and Sweden, Schjerfbeck is relatively unknown to the rest of the world. This book provides fresh insight into her idiosyncratic processes and discusses the series of haunting self-portraits that she painted in her final years, which stand among the twentieth century's most extraordinary selfexaminations. Seeing Silence: The Paintings of Helene Schjerfbeck introduces an extraordinary Nordic artist who realized her own unique vision with passionate determination, despite personal adversity and her homeland's Dita Amory is Robert Lehman Curator in Charge of the Lehman Collection at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. turbulent political history.
