The highly acclaimed U.K. post-punk band Joy Division was originally called Warsaw. Formed in Manchester, England in the late 1970s, the group consisted of Ian Curtis on vocals, Bernard Albrecht (aka Sumner, aka Dicken) on guitar, Peter Hook on bass and Stephen Morris on drums. Hook, Albrecht and Curtis hooked up at a local concert and later formed the group Warsaw. The band's name was taken from a David Bowie-Brian Eno composition, InchWarszawaInch. The 5 bonus tracks on this album are demos cut by the group at Pennine Studios in Manchester on July 18, 1977 with Steve Brotherdale on drums. The first eleven tracks presented here were the result of a recording session for that album that took place in early May of1978. Rehearsals leading up to the session resulted in two new songs being added to the group's existing repertoire InchInterzoneInch and InchTransmission.Inch InchInterzoneInch was based on the backing track of the song InchKeep On Keepin' On, Inch to which the band added their own lyrics. The result was a song distinctively their own. InchTransmissionInch was written by the band during the final week of rehearsals. Known initially as The Jaybirds, and then Blues Trip, Ten Years After was formed by Alvin Lee, Leo Lyons, Chick Churchill and Ric Lee in 1966, allegedly taking their name from the fact it was then a decade after Elvis Presley had burst onto the scene. The first act signed to the Chrysalis agency, the group built a fearsome reputation for their live act, with leader Alvin Lee dubbed 'the fastest guitar in the west. 'Their debut album, Ten Years After, was released in October 1967. In the year when the album came of age, the group produced a fine collection of covers - such as Willie Dixon's Spoonful, and Al Kooper's I Can't Keep From Crying Sometimes - and originals. Produced by Mike Vernon and Gus Dudgeon at Decca's West Hampstead Studios, it was one of the most assured blues- rock debuts of the 60s. Pink Fairies grew out of The Deviants, a loose-knit band formed in 1967 by members of the West London hippie commune in Ladbroke Grove. Consisting primarily of vocalist Mick Farren, guitarist Paul Rudolph, bassist Duncan Sanderson, and drummer Russell Hunter, the group also featured satellite members Marc Bolan, Steve Peregrine Took, and players from the band Group X, later rechristened Hawkwind. After a disastrous US tour, Farren was fired and the remaining Deviants returned to London, where they recruited vocalist and former Pretty Things drummer Twink (born John Alder), who suggested the name Pink Fairies. Despite gaining a reputation for mythic debauchery, the group remained largely an underground sensation before signing to Polydor and releasing three albums. Rehearsals leading up to the session resulted in two new songs being added to the group's existing repertoire InchInterzoneInch and InchTransmission.Inch InchInterzoneInch was based on the backing track of the song InchKeep On Keepin' On, Inch to which the band added their own lyrics. The result was a song distinctively their own. InchTransmissionInch was written by the band during the final week of rehearsals. Known initially as The Jaybirds, and then Blues Trip, Ten Years After was formed by Alvin Lee, Leo Lyons, Chick Churchill and Ric Lee in 1966, allegedly taking their name from the fact it was then a decade after Elvis Presley had burst onto the scene. The first act signed to the Chrysalis agency, the group built a fearsome reputation for their live act, with leader Alvin Lee dubbed 'the fastest guitar in the west. 'Their debut album, Ten Years After, was released in October 1967. In the year when the album came of age, the group produced a fine collection of covers - such as Willie Dixon's Spoonful, and Al Kooper's I Can't Keep From Crying Sometimes - and originals. Produced by Mike Vernon and Gus Dudgeon at Decca's West Hampstead Studios, it was one of the most assured blues- rock debuts of the 60s. Pink Fairies grew out of The Deviants, a loose-knit band formed in 1967 by members of the West London hippie commune in Ladbroke Grove. Consisting primarily of vocalist Mick Farren, guitarist Paul Rudolph, bassist Duncan Sanderson, and drummer Russell Hunter, the group also featured satellite members Marc Bolan, Steve Peregrine Took, and players from the band Group X, later rechristened Hawkwind. After a disastrous US tour, Farren was fired and the remaining Deviants returned to London, where they recruited vocalist and former Pretty Things drummer Twink (born John Alder), who suggested the name Pink Fairies. Despite gaining a reputation for mythic debauchery, the group remained largely an underground sensation before signing to Polydor and releasing three albums. This was the first of them and features the original line-up of Twink, Paul Rudolph, Russell Hunter and the late Duncan InchSandyInch Sanderson.
